Olga Klyachko

Born in Moscow, Russia, Olga received her Ph.D. in molecular biology from the Institute of Development Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where she worked for many years before moving to Bloomington with her husband and joining IU. Too busy to have any hobbies except for her work and her family early on, Olga took on quilting approaching retirement (the top on the photo above is an example of her quilts). Later, quilting evolved into “painting with fabric” utilizing fabric collage, raw edge applique and free-motion quilting. It is not painting on fabric; rather, this is creating a “painting” with a medium of fabric instead of paint. Olga loves traveling and finds her inspiration from fascination with landscapes, architecture and museums all over the world.
